Closed Poker Rooms

PracticalGambling.com has been online since 2004 and in that time we have reviewed and promoted some poker rooms that are no longer operating. This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of online poker rooms that have closed their virtual doors - we would like it to be such a resource, but currently it isn't.

No, currently, it is simply a collection of poker rooms that we used to promote but that are no longer in business.

And it is also a convenient way for us to shift our now out of date reviews of those poker rooms to this place instead of removing them or having to rewrite them.

Poker In Canada

Poker In Canada closed early in 2009. The owners have a few other sites on the same network, Action Poker, so they simply moved their players to what they hope will be their flagship brand, TigerGaming.

We really liked the Poker In Canada poker room though and were sorry to see it close.

Dream Poker

Dream Poker was not long in business at all. A skin on the (what was then called) the PrimaPoker network, Dream Poker was operational for little over a year, and closed it's doors in October, 2007.

The player base from Dream Poker were moved to GNUF.com on the PrimaPoker network.

Gaming Club Poker

Gaming Club Poker, also a skin on the then PrimaPoker network, faded away early in 2008, and was actually amalgamated with Poker Time, which had the same owner, and I suppose was felt to be the stronger brand.

When poker rooms are amalgamated, that simply means that the player base, the members, are shifted from playing at the old skin to the new room.

Holdem Poker

Holdem Poker was one of a number of poker rooms owned by the same group. It was closed in 2008 and the players were directed to PokerRoom, which has since also closed.

PokerRoom

As a brand name, you would think that PokerRoom couldn't be better. Still, the owners decided to close this room in 2009 and has amalgamated the player base into their main brand poker room, BWIN.

Jungle Poker

Jungle Poker was a bad pick on our part. We were dazzled by their spokesmodel, Cheynelle Frazier, and so we promoted this room for a while. When they fired the model, we stopped promoting the room.

Still, we apologize for our lapse here. Lesson learned. Jungle Poker closed in 2008. I should point out that the current site at that address is a poker affiliate portal and I assume ti is a perfectly respectable site.

Bugsys Club

Bugsys Club closed in 2009, and the player base we are told went to Poker Stars with their bankrolls intact.

We didn't actually review Bugsys Club. We had planned to, but they up and closed before we could.

Poker Room Closures

Most of the poker room closures listed here did not involve any financial problems for their players. Having the players account shifted to another poker room on skin meant that their entire bankroll would be transferred too, so the player could just keep on playing like before, except with a new poker room name.

This is not always the case with poker room closures though. The reason that it is the case with the above listed sites is that we, at PracticalGambling.com, take care to select the better poker rooms to promote.

This is not always the case of course, and sometimes you get caught out, or make a mistake. It does happen. But with some care and attention to the details it need not happen too often.

It is most likely that, as the online poker industry begins to mature, and coupled with the recent economic downturn, more and more online poker rooms may face closure.

That makes it even more important to take care when deciding to deposit your money in an online poker room. Read a review. Read more than one review.
