Absolute Poker had their domain name seized by the Department of Justice on Black Friday in April 2011, along with the other top online poker rooms that continued to accept American players.
While Poker Stars and Full Tilt came to an arrangement with the DOJ regarding American players, and so had their domain names returned, Absolute Poker, and UltimateBet, did not reach any similar agreement and so Absolute now operates their site from a .ag address.
The poker room is still operating and players are playing poker there everyday, though not nearly as many as they had before Black Friday.
The site has stopped accepting new players from America, but as far as we know, they allow Americans with existing accounts to continue to play.
However, not only are they not paying out withdrawals to their American players, which may be explained by the US Government crackdown on poker payment processors and the attendant difficulties in finding ways to get the money to the US players, but they are also not paying out to their European and rest of the world players either, and there are no restrictions on this except for the obvious lack of cash.
It is in no way safe to deposit to Absolute Poker at this time. Some players have made small deposits in order to open up new cashout methods, but making any deposit now at Absolute Poker is the same as throwing your money away.
Should that situation change it will be reported here.
